If you can not say yest to one of those questions your are violating Windows Licensing if you install it on a server or a NAS with out direct keyboard or mouse access. I wasn't aware that VMWare had a free version. There's a long list of hypervisors, all of them have their advantages.I think Hyper-V is out for me since we're exclusively a Windows 7 shop at the moment. HyperV comes with Windows 10 Professional. I like VMware, because it's what I'm used to, it's fairly prevalent in the enterprise, and they have a free version that works well for a lot of situation. The image is a bit old at this point.Īlso, the hypervisor depends on your budget. ![]() You can clean it up, but by the time you're done, it's normally easier to do a fresh install. Doing a P2V will leave a lot of stale hardware in Windows. You're probably better off starting from scratch.
